Watch out Seattle!

Thursday, May 27th, 2010

sitescoutlogoTuesday, May 25th was a big day for us here at the Rubicon Project. It marked the date of an expansion of our family, in people and in location. SiteScout, a malware security technology provider based in Seattle, joined us in our quest to build a complete publisher technology platform. By joining our Rubicon Project team, they are leaving behind a lot of great memories and joining 150 tRP team members who are very happy to have them here! The whole team erupted in applause when their team walked through the door and into our office- now that’s not a bad welcome :) .

Since communication and transparency are cultural values for us (and something we live, breathe, and do) we called an All Hands on Deck team meeting the morning of the acquisition. It was a chance to introduce our new team members to the  entire global company and  learn the value that SiteScout is bringing to our business. People were able to ask questions of the SiteScout team and everyone left feeling positive about the partnership. While the new team members were kept extremely busy during the day (back to back meetings makes you tough!) we did take some time Tuesday night to have a happy hour event here at the LA office, so folks could meet the team and get to know their new colleagues.

Acquisition’s can be challenging. Great companies have suffered after not putting in the time and resources necessary to make sure things go smoothly. Here at the Rubicon Project, we are all committed to making sure our new team members feel welcome and can hit the ground running.  Tuesday was, in all honestly, a huge celebration for us and a chance for the two teams to come together- a reward for a lot of hard work and great dreams for the future.

So, Seattle here we come! We will have a Rubicon Project office located in Pioneer Square- close to QWEST field and the home of the very beloved Seattle Sounders. We will be spending the next couple weeks getting the office “Rubiconized”, teaching our new team members how we communicate and get stuff done, and working on integrating the product and doing what we do on behalf of our publishers and partners! If you would like an invitation for our welcome shin dig in Seattle on June 24th email: events@rubiconproject.com

the Rubicon Project in the Eyes of a New Employee

Our lovely Rachel Richards

Our lovely Rachel Richards

As a Midwestern gal—born and raised—it was a struggle to pull me out of sweet, sweet Michigan. Working, sleeping and living in an automotive market was the only way of life that I knew. Shortly after we married, my husband and I decided to flee the Midwest and head to the West Coast, but only after careful review, evaluation and more evaluation of our future. Sticking to what I knew in the automotive world seemed right; it was comfortable for me at the time. It was 1 ½ years after living the dream in California that I realized, I really wasn’t living the dream at all. I needed a change. There was something telling me to move over into the .com world and I realized that the Rubicon Project was where I needed to be. I just knew in my heart, it would be a good learning experience and the perfect new chapter I was looking for.

On one fine Friday afternoon, I received the call I had been waiting for: “WE WANT TO OFFER YOU A JOB WITH THE RUBICON PROJECT!” I couldn’t see straight I was so excited. Yet, there was still that uncertain feeling I had towards change. I had no idea what was about to happen to me with the Rubicon Project.

It was Thursday, July 30 when everything fell into place and I realized the power and reputation of the Rubicon Project. My coworker, Devan Fearman, and I were heading to Twiistup 6 to meet up with our Twiistup Scholarship winners (big shout out to Jay Gergen and Ben Jackson) when everything clicked. Showing my black and red pride, I felt as if I was at my wedding all over again. No matter how hard I tried, I couldn’t make it to the bar for a glass of champagne.

Throughout the night we were being stopped by Twiistup attendees asking the same question “Hey – You work for the Rubicon Project?” They usually followed with “You guys seem to be everywhere” or “Tell me more, what do you guys do?” My favorite was “Are you hiring?” What a proud feeling it was to know I am truly part of something so huge, something bigger than I could ever imagine.

It was also an honor to be among some of the most innovate companies that make up our LA tech community. The energy was buzzing and I enjoyed meeting some of our most creative, smart and successful neighbors. One of my favorites was BakeSpace. Besides not being able to resist the delicious tower of mini cupcakes they had at their table, I’m in love with the idea behind their business. If you haven’t heard of BakeSpace, it’s an online community where people from around the world can gather to post, search and swap recipes. Perfect for a girl who just moved from Michigan and misses out on dinner parties with hometown friends.

Needless to say, I had a great time representing the Rubicon Project at my first industry event. And without question, I can sit here today and say, “I’m the happiest I have been in 1 ½ years.” To be offered the experience of a lifetime and love waking up every morning to go into work is priceless. To be greeted by some of the most down-to-earth, fun loving, brilliant people every day is priceless.

The best part about it all is YES, the Rubicon Project is hiring!! How many companies can say that these days??!!

I could go on-and-on with my thoughts and excitement as a new hire and, of course, my experiences as I move through the busy world of a start-up company as their Marketing and Events Manager, but I’ll spare you. I hope and pray every night that I help to shape the Rubicon Project as it has helped to shape the new chapter of my life. Thanks to all and Cheers to happiness!

Introducing Culture Blog

Monday, April 20th, 2009

We’re a hard-working bunch: we log a lot of late hours; spend weekends in the office; and strain over strategies to completely change the industry. But the key to life is balance. So we play as hard as work: our house events, quarterly community service, and regular team outings keep the office warm and welcoming. Check here for regular updates on what we’re up to and how we’re making this a great place to work.

The environment we create here makes all those long nights and cut-throat deadlines worthwhile. We’re doing something special here, and it’s not just in our innovative technology. We’re upholding our company’s cultural values, and that makes all the difference.

  1. Innovation: We invest our thinking and resources into change that will propel the industry and company forward.
  2. Transparency: Knowledge is powerful. Transparency keeps us honest. We believe in the highest level of transparency possible with our team, investors and customers.
  3. Active Communication: Communication makes or breaks relationships. We will devote time and effort in making communication a priority.
  4. Humility: While we enjoy winning, we will not let our success get to our head.
  5. Respect: Team development is a top priority for us. We hold each other in high regard and have zero tolerance for disrespectful behavior.
  6. Community: We consider ourselves to be fortunate and believe in paying it forward to those in need.
  7. Competition: We are driven to win and are highly competitive; externally not internally.
  8. Pride: Personal pride in our work is the number one criteria for our team members.
  9. Speed: We go fast but don’t hurry.
  10. Do More with Less: Constantly find ways to do twice as much with half as much time, money, and resources.
  11. Mistakes are OK: If we aren’t making mistakes, we aren’t moving fast enough. Making mistakes is the key to innovating and learning.
  12. Fun: We will celebrate our wins together, big and small.
