Support Our Local Schools

Tuesday, June 9th, 2009

School’s almost out for the summer but when students return in the fall, they may find themselves out of funding as well. According to this Los Angeles Times article, school districts across California are coping with the $5.3 billion budget cut with teacher layoffs and school closures. Some are even considering shortening the school year, a move that would be especially hard for children with tougher economic backgrounds, says U.S. Education Secretary Arne Duncan.

But DonorsChoose.org, an online charity connecting you to classrooms in need, can supplement California school’s losses through its many programs. We already used their Giving Cards during the Holiday season as a gift to our team. Their latest offering, The Great Give-Back Brithday is a way for you to donate your birthday to support classroom projects, inviting your friends to support a cause of your choice in lieu of birthday presents. For more information, see DonorsChoose.org and help keep our California schools running. bday_banners_may

E-waste Collection

Tuesday, June 2nd, 2009

ewc The final weigh in: we brought in 300 pounds of recyclable electronics during our Green Week e-waste drive. The eWaste Center, Inc. will donate a portion of the proceeds to the Midnight Mission on our behalf and has generously offered to provide us with permanent electronics disposal bins to facilitate easier pick-ups, taking our office to a new level of responsible recycling. With the growing pile of old printers and retired faxes we’re bringing in to the office, we’ll be going green while also funding one of our favorite outreach programs (Midnight Mission). Talk about your two-in-one.To set up your own eWaste pick-up schedule, check out their site or call (323) 837-9950.
